Bonus Episode: Something About Your Host Melissa

On this bonus episode of Something Will Happen, Melissa and Gary turn the tables. We thought it was time to have a proper introduction of our podcast host and AROTR co-producer Melissa. Gary interviews Melissa for a change, so listeners can learn more about Melissa’s background and career. Melissa shares her story from where she started to how she got where she is today at AROTR.

After cycling through many different majors in college, then cycling through many different odd jobs, she found herself working at a large venue which had been purchased by the family of a childhood friend. There, she cut her teeth in the music and event industry working as a runner. Through this opportunity, she was able to learn the ins and outs of many areas of production. She observed or helped with anything she could to gain her knowledge base.

In the conversation, the two of them talk about Melissa’s background with music and her many acts. She plays a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, and cello. She is a member of a few bands. She also works as an impressionist. While she does many impressions, her main act is as an Elvis impersonator by the name of Melvis. She even gives us a taste of her impressions in the interview.

As for AROTR, Melissa’s start with the festival was a bit unconventional. Together with a friend, they emailed Gary offering to perform as DJs at the festival for a dance party. They didn’t expect a reply; however, Gary reached out saying that was exactly what he was looking for. After that experience, she saw a post by Gary in search of a social media manager for the AROTR Instagram. Melissa reached out and after securing the position, she began to take on more and more responsibility with the festival. She is now the co-producer and works alongside Gary to bring the festival to fruition each year.

Gary goes over some of the many responsibilities Melissa has taken on with the festival and muses over the future of Abbey Road on the River. He gives his appreciation to Melissa and the other core staff members who help to make this wonderful event happen. They banter about shows, their favorite Beatle, and the serendipitous nature of life.
