S2 E3: Something About Liverpool Beatle Week

This week Melissa is joined by her cousin, Willa. Together, they recount their experience traveling to Liverpool for Beatle Week this past August.

The two start by describing their first impressions of arriving at Liverpool. They speculate what streets John, Paul, George, and Ringo walked and how it felt to be walking them now so many years later. They discuss the intersection of expectation and reality by experiencing this historical place in a modern world.

They tell of a bus tour and how they were hungry for more details and more connection to the four famous reasons that brought them to Liverpool. Willa tells Melissa how things started to feel real for her when they entered the Casbah Club. They describe seeing the original painting and John Lennon’s signature scratched into the ceiling.

They also talk of seeing friends from all over who had also traveled to experience Liverpool Beatle Week. Willa talks of looking at her friends enjoying the experience and how she would take a step back to take it in and be present in the moment; great advice for all of us.

Together, they reflect on how their experience compares to Abbey Road on the River. They talk of how they got to experience the entire city but had to choose which shows to see or miss, while at AROTR you are always close to all the action. They spoke of the way the energy at AROTR is a concentrated microcosm of Beatlemania. They spoke of how at either event, you are sure to find like minded, Beatle loving people and how excited they are for AROTR in May!

Don’t forget to follow Abbey Road on the River on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok for up to date news about the festival and even more Beatles content!
