S2 E7: Something About Singing in the Rain with The Wag

This week on Something Will Happen Melissa talks with all four members of The Wag! They talk of the band’s beginning, how they were influenced by the Beatles, and their favorite memories at Abbey Road on the River.

They begin by telling Melissa how the band formed when Brian and Alicia met in college. They played together for years until one member left and another tragically passed away. Eventually, Don and Joshua joined the band and the four of them have made up the core band for nearly ten years.

They tell the story of their memorable first year at Abbey Road on the River. If you were at the festival in 2019, you will surely remember the storm that hit that Sunday. The band was informed of lightning and had to vacate the stage. Hundreds of guests and musicians alike took shelter under the tents around the venue as the torrential rain poured.

In an attempt to make the best of the situation, they grabbed a tambourine and an acoustic guitar and held an impromptu singalong concert under the tent while waiting for the storm to pass. Although nobody wished for bad weather at the event, the rain provided the space for the band and fans to create a lasting memory of Abbey Road on the River. The band still gets remembered as the one under the tent whose drummer played the chair!

Next, Melissa asks the band to share their connection to the Beatles and how it has influenced them as musicians. They talk of growing up hearing the music played with their families and how they connected to the songs as they got older. They discuss the creativity of Ringo and their memories of hearing the news that John Lennon was assassinated.

They finish up the conversation by pointing out some of their favorite memories at Abbey Road on the River. They tell of great shows, late night singalongs, and give a special shout out to the commissary. They tell Melissa a bit of what they are planning to bring to the festival in May including early Beatles sets, the Pepper Parade, and even some original songs!
