Bonus Episode: Something About Paul McCartney with Tony Kishman

In this Bonus Episode of Something Will Happen Melissa talks to Tony Kishman of Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney. Together they discuss how Tony got into the gig of playing Paul McCartney professionally, some close calls of meeting the real Paul, and plans for the upcoming 2023 Abbey Road on the River festival.

When the Broadway show Beatlemania came to L.A. they were looking for a Paul to fill the role. A friend of Tony’s remarked how he bore a resemblance to McCartney and encouraged him to try out for the part. Tony tells Melissa and the listeners of the process of learning to play Paul songs and going through multiple rounds of auditions.

Landing this role began Tony’s long career of performing as a Paul McCartney lookalike. After the show closed, Tony was inundated with requests to perform as Paul in a variety of Beatles shows and tributes. This eventually led to Performing as Paul in his own solo shows.

Tony shares a few anecdotes about the close calls he has had and the times he has almost met the real Paul. These stories include leaving a Paul McCartney concert early only to learn later that Paul had asked to meet him after the show and playing original music for George Martin only to be told “you sound too much like Paul and I already work with the real one.”

Tony tells Melissa how excited he is to perform for us at Abbey Road on the River in 2023! He remarks that he is looking forward to seeing headliner Micky Dolenz whom he has worked with before.  He also mentions how excited he is to meet the fans and share the experience of AROTR. Tony’s show is as close to the real thing as you can get and we can’t wait to see him perform!
